L'allievo di Vittorio Benussi, Fritz Heider, descriveva così il suo maestro: "He was an elegant-looking, lean person with a finely chiseled and melancholy face and a dry skeptical smile. He went around in a black laboratory smock and when he took a walk he put on a black hat with a wide brim and puffed on a long black cigar" [Fritz Heider, "Gestalt Theory: Early History and Reminiscences", in Henle, Jaynes, Sullivan (eds.), Historical Conceptions of Psychology, New York, Springer, 1973, p. 66].
